“Intellectual Property Vs Creative Freedom”

Do you know that the consultation period for a paper on copyright protection ends recently? Do you know that the paper proposing more restrictions on content consumers as well as producers? Is there any fair use principle in Hong Kong?
As content creators and artists, we occasionally use copyright materials in our artwork, are we infringing the copyright law? How can we use existing copyright material in our creation without infringing the law? How can we sample existing copyright material in our live performance or recordings? How much found footage can we use in our found footage film? What will be the effect of the recent court case of prosecutingthe BT users?
These important questions will be addressed by our special guest, Mr. Kent Yee, Barrister and Deputy Special Magistrate. Mr. Yee will give us a professional introduction of the copyright law in Hong Kong. The talk will last for about 45 minutes, followed by another 45-minute Q&A session. Before the talk, a recent TV documentary on the government consultation paper on copyright protection in the digital environment will be shown first at 5:00 p.m. Mr. Yee will start his presentation at 5:30 p.m.
Mr. Kent Yee graduated from HKU School of Law in 1995 and started his full practice as Barrister in 1996. In 1999, Yee was appointed as Deputy Special Magistrate. His main practice is civil and commercial litigation with an emphasis on intellectual property disputes.

The International Conference on the Arts in Society has announced its 2nd annual Arts Conference.
Place: University of Kassel, Germany, August 22-24, 2007.
The conference is held alongside Documenta 12.
This year, the Arts Conference will feature arts educators, artists, arts practitioners and theorists in all forms of disciplinary practice through paper presentations, workshops and colloquia.
The conference venue, the University of Kassel, is located in the heart of Kassel in close proximity to Documenta venues and activities.

Submissions are invited for papers, workshops and alternative presentation formats for consideration in the 2007 conference program. If you are unable to attend the Arts Conference in person, online virtual registrations are available, and provide electronic access to the conference proceedings. Written submissions will also be considered for publication in the refereed conference journal, The International Journal of the Arts in Society.
While submissions in all areas of the arts will be considered, presentations in keeping with this year’s conference theme: Art and Education – are especially welcome. A Pre-Conference day of programs and exhibition tours of Documenta will be offered on August 21st.
The deadline in the next round of call for papers is 15 May 2007. (There will be a subsequent deadline in June.)

2007/08年度「藝術獎學金」現正接受申請
香港藝術發展局現正公開接受2007/08年度「藝術獎學金」─「藝發局列斯大學獎學金」的申請，歡迎有志到英國留學的藝術工作者或藝術系學生參加。
「藝發局列斯大學獎學金」由裘槎香港慈善信託基金及英國列斯大學聯合支持，旨在資助有志到英國進修的藝術工作者或藝術系學生，報讀由英國列斯大學提供的藝術碩士課程（如文化研究、藝術史、表演藝術、音樂、藝廊與博物館研究碩士課程等），以豐富其藝術知識及擴闊國際視野。

香港藝術發展局委約計劃
2007/8年度社區劇場與即興劇場海外學習計劃
亞洲民眾戲劇節協會獲香港藝術發展局委約，遴選及安排八位香港劇場工作者前往美國、加拿大、英國及菲律賓等地追隨大師作短期學習，希望透過計劃使香港的社區劇場與即興劇場達至更高更闊的水平。

Keith Johnstone是即興戲劇大師，他發明許多即興戲劇表演的方法，包括Theatresports(劇場競技)、The Life Game, Gorilla Theatre和Micetro等，其中Theatresports (劇場競技) 最為港人熟悉。
Keith Johnstone每年暑假在加拿大亞爾伯達省主辦即興劇場工作坊。
2007年度工作坊將於七月十六日至廿五日舉行。
獎助學金包括提供來回香港及加拿大Calgary經濟客位機票，在CALGARY Mount Royal College Residence學習期間的住宿、所有學費及每日津貼。
