Open dialogue: Searching for a Curator
November 13, 2008, 9:24 pm

Open dialogue: Searching for a Curator, is derivative from the exhibition “Looking for Antonio Mak” curated by Ms. Valerie Doran. The event details are as follows:

Topics of Open Dialogue:

Contemporary curatorship is primary topic/subject-oriented. This time, the exhibition “Looking for Antonio Mak” returns the focal point back to the artist himself. Is this a reflection/rejection on the current artistic phenomenon?
-Retrospect on the role of a curator nowadays and what problems may arise within this role?
-Draw from a selection of especially creative and interesting exhibitions and how they have been curated.
-¨Open Dialogue¨ as the first yearly curator plan executed by Hong Kong Museum of Arts, please comment “Looking for Antonio Mak¨ and the previous two exhibitions Digit@logue and “New Ink Art”. What kind of exhibition are we longing for at present?
-Take a look at the development of Hong Kong art spaces in terms of curatorship.
Speakers:
-Valerie C Doran (curator of “Looking for Antonio Mak¨) critic, curator, and
translator specializing in the field of contemporary Asian art with a special interest
in cross-cultural currents and comparative art theory
