The concept of Human Landscape – Building Community – Creativity & Creative Community-Building
A continuous cityscape of the Hong Kong city has been built over the last 150 years. The displacement of communities, street markets, historic landmarks, and traditional festivals by gated estates, mega-stores, glass towers and pop concerts is denying a time dimension of the city where any places or architectures over 30 years are old enough to be demolished and become collective memories of the city.
The proposed project is meant to conclude some of the curator’s (*Cheng Ping Hung) earlier creative community building exercises and personal involvement in social actions within local communities including Tai O, Lee Tung Street, St Francis Streets and particularly Kai Tak River. These acts were all relevant to bring forth an attention of the significance in civil rights, creative powers and public initiatives in transforming our immediate built environment. The directives of these experiences are bringing a new dimension for an alternative quality of life in our city including elements of community building, cultural sustainability, public education and creative spaces.
The project is intended to arouse the attention of human landscape in the long-term urban development of the Hong Kong city, by specifically studying Kai Tak River. It is meant to investigate the possibility of regaining a ground to balance conservation and development within our natural plus cultural landscape, with a community engagement among the creative urban design process.
